As people are leaving the camps for internally displaced people and returning to their original homesteads, they are in some cases reclaiming land that has been abandoned for over twenty years. The tasks before them are often overwhelming, especially for the women and girls CAFWA works with as they are in many cases widows or disabled, or do not have the support of male family members.

CAFWA is working together with these women to help them utilize the full potential of their available land. This support involves both short and long-term goals, such as increasing the numbers of acres farmed of field crops, increase production of short term crops such as vegetables and greens, plant short-term trees for fodder, construction materials and firewood, long-term trees for land conservation, and provide access to wood saving stoves.
